Israel now plans to demolish the only source of power to a village in the South Hebron Hills, leaving 390 people without electricity from solar panels. For the record this contravenes article 3 of the 1907 Hague Convention and 53 of the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949. This information comes via EAPPI, 10th Nov 2011
You may be aware that 2 boats bound for Gaza recently were intercepted by Israeli forces. Little has been heard of this in the media, except that the interception was peaceful. Gradually it is emerging that this is far from the truth. Once again the interception was in international waters, of the 27 voyagers 20 remain to be released and the whereabouts of one is unknown. They are being pressured into signing waivers that are untrue. This is democracy, Israeli style. How can we in the West hold up democracy as a model for the rest of the world when we allow it to be abused in such a manner and without comment
Just thinking about how inter-connected things are. We've seen an Arab Spring turning into a rather damp and uncertain autumn, The Palestinians pushed back whatever they try to do and Israel & US ratcheting up the rhetoric against Iran. And in the midst of the worst financial crisis in a generation we seem intent on making more weapons of destruction. I'm maybe in a minority of one - I don't believe, as some US Evangelical Christians do (& Pentecostals) that this will hasten the end; if anything it will prolong the agony: and I believe that view is the Biblical one.
